A resource to make the rich cultural heritage of a historic institution such as the University of Barcelona available to the public.
The Virtual Museum of the UB is a great example of a digital resource that integrates and highlights the diverse cultural heritage of an institution with centuries of history, a portal that gives life to the past by projecting it into the future. In the Virtual Museum you can consult the various heritage collections through a search engine with various filter options, as well as learn about the UB’s heritage through new formats: virtual exhibitions, virtual tours and 3D models.
The endeavor consisted of a major project to digitize the university’s various collections.
Results obtained:
- Digitization of the UB’s heritage collections.
- The establishment of a linked open data model for greater interoperability, integration, accessibility and discovery of the collections.
- 3D digitization of some of the most representative objects, displaying the diversity and richness of the UB’s heritage.
- Creation of a catalogue of digitized 3D objects.
