3D digitization of pre-cinematographic heritage

CRDI Girona
2023-2024

The Tomàs Mallol collection of the Museum of Cinema

In charge of carrying out one of the pilots of the European project EUreka3D.

The digitization of 50 pre-cinema objects (transparencies projectors, camera obscuras, zoetropes, praxinoscopes and magic lanterns, among others) from the Tomàs Mallol collection is a major milestone in the 3D digitization of cultural heritage. On the one hand, because of the high quality of the data, that is, the 3D objects, with high-resolution results in mesh and textures. On the other hand, due to the high quality and richness in metadata and paradata, that is, in the technical information of the object and in the data of the digitization process.

Expertise in the digitization of specular and high reflectivity elements

Results obtained:

  • High quality 3D models in data, metadata and paradata.
  • High-resolution Master models for documentation, archiving and research
  • Lowpoly and optimal-quality models for online dissemination and sharing
  • Recreation of mirror and negative effects with FX techniques applied to 3D
  • Production of high-quality renderings and audiovisuals with 3D models
